Prince Moulay Rachid awarded for cross-cultural dialogue

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid has been awarded the Roberto Rossellini Award for promoting cross-cultural understanding in Marrakech International Film Festival organized by the Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, President of the Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation, is spearheading several main projects focusing on cross-cultural dialogue connecting civilizations.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, an advocate of cross-cultural dialogue and understanding, emphasizes that people to people contacts, which cinema provides, to a great extent counter the vague generalizations and confused perceptions that too often convey distorted images of countries, cultures, traditions and religions. The cinema is treated as an effective instrument of cross-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding in the contemporary world.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid accentuates that the stability of cultural mosaic depends on deep cross-cultural understanding, particularly between young people. Marrakech International Film Festival presents useful models for intercultural interaction where culturally different movies utilize to make festival more vibrant and effective. The Marrakech International Film Festival Foundation stresses important considerations in selecting the movies, to give value to stories from every corner of the world, and to play a vital educational role in promoting tolerance in all areas of human behavior.

In 2004, UNESCO honored to recognize HRH Prince Moulay Rachid for Prince’s sustained advocacy of promoting cross-cultural understanding, tireless leadership and development of programs to benefit the dialogue among civilizations.

HRH Prince Moulay Rachid, the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Law from Montesquieu-Bordeaux IV University, uses the unlimited resources of cinema to strengthen the cultural cooperation. Prince’s degree of influence not only crosses transcends countless boundaries, what's more, creates a common cultural space that does not admit any political, ideological, religious and racial borders.
